Spectrum Health Systems Continues to Expand in Response to Rising Demand for Services

Published On: October 19th, 2017

Spectrum Health Systems, Inc., a longtime not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing a comprehensive continuum of addiction treatment throughout Massachusetts, has increased access to recovery resources across the state to continue combatting the addiction crisis. New outpatient treatment centers are now open in Millbury and Weymouth, and the company’s existing Pittsfield program moved to a larger facility to adequately serve the local population.

While opioid-related deaths are slowing down, likely due to increases in the availability of the overdose-reversing medication, there was still an estimated 2,107 in 2016, according to Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) data. In fact, the opioid-related death rate in Massachusetts far surpasses the national average.

“While a slowing trend in overdose deaths is encouraging, the battle against addiction and substance use disorders in New England is far from over,” said Kurt Isaacson, CEO of Spectrum Health Systems. “Drug addiction and alcohol abuse affect every community, but treatment services are lacking. We use trusted data to identify where treatment providers are needed most, and then work to ensure recovery services are accessible for those citizens. These expansions will offer new and convenient options to hundreds of people and we will continue to fight to bring people struggling with substance use disorders the help they need.”

Spectrum Health Systems’ outpatient treatment centers provide a range of services to meet individual needs, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT), individual and group counseling, mental health services and more.

In the past three years, Spectrum Health Systems has grown exponentially to accommodate the need for reputable treatment centers. Additional outpatient facilities have opened in Leominster, Haverhill, North Adams and Saugus. A new inpatient detoxification program is now available at Spectrum’s inpatient facility in Weymouth, and Spectrum opened its third Peer Recovery Center in Lawrence.

In 2015, Spectrum constructed a brand new 104-bed inpatient facility, The Charles J. Faris Recovery Center, on its Westborough Treatment Campus and launched the New England Recovery Center, a subsidiary of Spectrum dedicated to serving commercially insured and private-pay clients.
