Spectrum Health Systems is proud to spotlight Amy Fabiano, a dedicated board member whose legal background and personal commitment to addiction recovery makes her a vital asset to Spectrum’s mission.

A Diverse and Accomplished Career

Amy serves as counsel at Bowditch & Dewey, where she is part of the employment group. Her practice encompasses higher education, nonprofit, and corporate clients. For her corporate and nonprofit clients, her practice focuses on a wide variety of employment issues such as regulatory and civil rights compliance, policy development and handbooks, internal investigations, actions before administrative agencies, and employee discipline, termination, hiring, severance, wage and hour, leave, and retirement issues.

Prior to joining Bowditch, Amy worked as in-house legal counsel to Worcester Polytechnic Institute and as a civil rights attorney handling discrimination and harassment claims. Amy’s experience spans a broad range of legal challenges, making her a trusted advisor for her clients and equipped her with the skills necessary to navigate complex legal landscapes, talents she brings to her work with Spectrum.

A Natural Fit for Spectrum

Amy’s connection to Spectrum Health Systems began through her work at Bowditch & Dewey, where Spectrum has been a long-time client. Collaborating closely with board member and attorney David Felper, Amy quickly became integral to Spectrum’s legal team, consulting on employment matters regularly. This close working relationship eventually led to her joining the Spectrum board, a role she embraced wholeheartedly.

Reflecting on her decision to join the board, Amy recalls a particularly poignant moment when working a legal matter for Spectrum. “As I was reading through the files, I realized that what I was seeing mirrored the experiences of my own family and friends who have struggled with addiction,” she says. “It hit home that the work I was doing for Spectrum wasn’t just about legal services; it was about supporting the vital care they provide to individuals facing the hardest challenges of their lives.”

A Personal Commitment to Addiction Recovery

Amy’s connection to addiction recovery fuels her commitment to Spectrum’s mission. Having witnessed loved ones grapple with addiction, Amy deeply appreciates the comprehensive, wraparound care Spectrum offers its clients, from initial treatment through continued support post-recovery. She values Spectrum’s ability to meet individuals where they are, offering them a pathway to sustained recovery.

Her motivation aligns with her professional role on the board. “I’m selective about the causes I support, especially when it comes to dedicating personal time outside of work,” she explains. “Spectrum is an organization whose mission I truly believe in. It’s more than just a client relationship for me; it’s about being part of something that has a meaningful impact on the community.”

Experience and Contributions

As a board member, Amy brings her legal background and her passion for advocacy. She highlights the importance of using her skills to navigate legal risks for Spectrum while maintaining a deep connection to the human side of the work. “Serving on Spectrum’s board is about more than just using my legal skills. It’s about being involved in an organization I believe in and know makes a real difference.”

Looking Ahead

Spectrum Health Systems is fortunate to have Amy Fabiano’s experience and dedication on its board. Her combination of legal acumen, personal passion, and commitment to community advocacy continues to enrich Spectrum’s mission to provide effective, compassionate care to individuals in need.

Amy’s involvement with Spectrum is a testament to her belief in the power of recovery and her desire to make a difference in the lives of those struggling with addiction.
